What is a virtual event?
In the digitalizing world, things like “online” and “virtual” are one of the main topics in the B2B and B2C sector. The worldwide pandemic situation will make it even faster. I believe there is one question on our minds – What will happen to the event industry? Before you read any further, it is good to note that the event industry contains both types of events; physical and virtual, and now the combinations of it – the hybrid event. These virtual and physical events are not racing with each other, meaning that if we move more virtual format, that doesn’t mean we give up physical events.

What we know is that the event industry should not slacken for all the misfortune what the year 2020 has brought. And companies should be trusting their audience and power of virtual events. Now is the time to jump on board, because soon it will be too late and the new world will be way ahead.
So what is a virtual event?
An event in virtual format means that audience is joining remotely at the same time by using their mobile or laptop with an internet connection to the event platform like Deal Room. A virtual format doesn’t mean that the event won’t bring interactive experience. All events (virtual or not) are running with the same idea : interesting speeches, workshops, networking and exhibitors. But in a virtual format, an online platform will replace the physical location.
People have different mind-set in what they are looking from the event. And it’s hard to say which are the main benefits, since many aspects apply to the very event-specific level depending on what are the needs of that certain case. A virtual format allows a bigger audience globally. Sometimes there are situations which don’t let travelling physically to the event place. It’s a timesaving experience for the event organizer and the attendee. Also, it’s a less costly and more climate-friendly. In the event organizer point of view, one benefit is analytic tools which help the measure of the success of the event. Let’s face the fact that there might be people who only want to hear speeches, other scheduled content or to have fast 1:1 meetings but are not interested in being around other people physically or in the whole event puzzling. Especially, in future hybrid events will take place and take in the account of everyones needs and wishes. I personally think that it’s easier to network in a virtual format. You can easily send a chat message to others, look at their social media links and schedule a private meeting. In the physical event, I may not even have the courage to go middle of someone’s chat to introduce myself. And more is coming! I have been working with virtual events for 2 months now.
